Make your probiotics at home (DIY)

Make your probiotics at home (DIY)

Making probiotics at home can be a fun and rewarding experience. Here is a simple recipe to make homemade probiotics using milk:

Ingredients:

1 quart of whole milk (preferably organic and non-homogenized)

1-2 tablespoons of live active culture yogurt or kefir

Sterilized jars or containers with lids

Instructions:

Heat the milk in a pot until it reaches 180°F (82°C), stirring occasionally. This will help to kill any harmful bacteria and create the right conditions for the beneficial bacteria to grow.

Remove the pot from heat and let it cool to 110°F (43°C). Use a thermometer to measure the temperature.

Add 1-2 tablespoons of live active culture yogurt or kefir to the milk and stir well.

Pour the mixture into sterilized jars or containers, leaving about an inch of space at the top.

Put the lids on the jars and wrap them in a towel or blanket to keep them warm.

Leave the jars at room temperature for 12-24 hours or until the milk has thickened and has a tangy taste. The longer you let it sit, the tangier it will become.

Once the yogurt has set, refrigerate it to slow down the fermentation process.

Note: You can use your homemade yogurt as a starter for your next batch. Just be sure to reserve a small amount of your homemade yogurt and use it as a starter for your next batch.

Enjoy your homemade probiotic yogurt as a delicious and healthy snack or use it in recipes that call for yogurt.
